Fear Not

I began this over Christmas and finished it early this AM. It was meant to speak to me but I hope it also might speak to you.

Fear Not

Fear not the Angel says

And I respond but you don’t know my life

Fear not the Angel says

And I say have you read the headlines

Fear not the Angel says

And I say have you met my boss

Fear not the Angel says

And I say did you see the results of my last physical

Fear not the Angel says

And I show that divine being my bank balance

Fear not the Angel says

And I say do you not see my tears

Fear not the Angel says

And I say do you not hear my cries

Fear not the Angel says

But the pain is real

Fear not the Angel proclaims, and the trumpets sound out

And I said I would if there was peace

But I see no peace

Between nations

Or communities

Or families

Or friends

Or even in my soul

And yet the angel continues its call to fear not

We wait at advent for the Prince of Peace

And discover our waiting is but a rehearsal for a peace we long for but will never know on this earth

Fear not the Angel says

And in our practice to set aside fear

We discover our need for faith

For only by faith are we able to let go of our fears

Faith lets us fear not

For we know the promise is true

For God sent Jesus

And Jesus conquered fear

Bringing hope

Offering Grace

And giving love

So fear not, for peace is promised

And not just promised

But assured

And nothing in life

or even death can take that away

So Joy to the World

For the Lord reigns

Indeed we can say with all the angels

Fear Not!

Alleluia Amen
